ENTRY

Hello guy, I'm Daniel,a.k.a Doc art stylist;I will be illustrating the way I paint Dynamic weather effect on character.

During this illustration,we will be seeing how we can use the following construct/principle such as VALUE DISTILLATION, SCALE, COLOR & DIRECTION to our advantage,As we paint WINTER❄️,SUNNY🌅,AUTUMN🌺, NIGHT HOUR🌉,RAINING🌧️, LIGHTENING⛈️ & FOGGY 🌫️ weather conditions and the different effect they have on a character.

Also I will be showing how to use the following settings which are HUE/SATURATION/LUMINOSITY & COLOR BALANCE,

For those who just recently starting to paint on CSP app or any painting app[for beginners] and have no idea off what a landscape/portrait are.Below is what a landscape and portrait look like

•Portrait Convas

It should like widths [800] × height [600]

It doesn't matter the number involved,so far as the [widths] is small than the [height]

•Landscape Convas

Let's give it this widths [600] × height [800]

Also landscape convas maintenance it format no matter the number involved,as far the [widths] is more longer than the [height].

But I will be using the portrait convas size for this illustration,

Here is the character I've created for this illustration specially

PRINCIPLE GUIDE FOR CREATING A DYNAMIC WEATHER CONDITIONS FOR A LANDSCAPE (i) Value distillation

Before weather conditions,we should get the ideas or as I call them principle behind creating a dynamic weather conditions and landscape.

The firstly on this router is value, value is distillation of elements at different stage or range[which means everything close would have a heavy value while everything further away should have a lighter value] in order for the different element to have a good contrast.

And they are three distinct elements which are at work here they are FOREGROUND>MIDGROUND>BACKGROUND.

•Note:

That I will be using the primary colors RGB (Red, Green and Blue) to indicate the different elements in the landscape image

Values also help give us the understanding that when a landscape is paint with [the black, white & the grey between] color and there is no reacting of color of them all with each other, that paint will be flat and void of realism,

But if we want the landscape to look semi realistic, all you need do is to react the different color with each order,so that the painting will have that three dimensional look.Without those strong values, the painting looks flat like what you seen above while below is it look semi realistic.

Note:As a beginner trying to building your art skill, you should avoid using many tonal variants when painting environmental landscape, because if you do use many with out better understanding the contrast will be lower. So make your image to carry least value as possible

•The numbering of tonal variants

2 as you can below

Also 3 value

Also 4 value

And if you most 5 value

Values can best understood when visualized as a scale or gradient, from dark to light.

(ii) Color variations

Color variation is an an full illustration on its own so I will just say this, that The way you use the variant of colors in your weather conditions matter,In order to have a better contrast as we paint.

• Note:

That as a beginner I advice you is to practice more with the Black[#fffff] and white[#00000] color by paint the black onto the white color with several shades of gray in between as a halftone to keep your coloring basic. These shades of gray make up the “meat” of a drawing, and helps to create the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality as is below.

If you would look closely to the both image above you will notice that there is a slight change in the background of both both image;

For the the first a white background resenting a clear sky while for the second a stormy clouded sky,

and if you look more closely to the midground of the second, you will notice that the color of the background reflected on the surface of the midground which implies that the two color reacting with each other.

(iii) Scale or Gradient

Scale of a landscape painting is a use aspect that shows the line or bar association of the three elements within a drawing,Scale is used to indicate measurement of the different elements when magnified or reduced in the sense of showing the distance between Foreground>Midground>Background.

Below I have paint some different way which scale are stages or used to given the three elements different points of view,

•Blur Scale

Blur Scaling) is another type of an image scaling that helps in the directing of your viewers to what you would like them to see more or pay attention to,and it also show how close or further away is the elements or character.

(iv) Direction

This principle in part is base on imagination that there are different path leading different ways on our landscape,

Let's imagine we are standing on one path and start walking will lead us somewhere, also more do same having different part leading randomly,

The purpose of this principle is to give we the freedom of making our landscape more interesting by playing around with the it but they are two things we should avoid, they are

• Firstly we shouldn't paint the ground straight but instead we should make ground curvey.

•The second is that it's good to use surroundings as reference or other work out there;we can also draw our landscape to have blindspot and place our object in our foreground, midground and background in them.

APPLICATION OF PRINCIPLE [1] Winter weather conditions❄️

Winter weather conditions are cold,so it most is represented by blue and white color environment.

So first, let's start by rough sketching our landscape, for this illustration I will be painting an Exaggerating Foreground landscape and a little girl [character] with a mushroom sitting on the varanda by the side of a house,

we draw a clean lineart on a new layer created above the rough sketch layer, while setting it to multiply,

Then we import an already made flower with was created for this illustration purpose and duplicate it into two above the line art layer.

Now after we done adjusting it,we create a new layer below the lineart layer and implement the two principle[value & color] to the color of the landscape flat, where as the house is colored brown more bigger than the white surroundings and the blueish leaf trees,

On a another new layer above the flat color layer,We add some shading to the house walls, floors and glass;add some trees on top of the mountain and add some details onto the trees such as white color on top of the tree,on the ground to represent the snow flecks.

we import the already made character into the landscape and making sure the it's set on top of the lineart and flat color by import the image on top of the other layer,

But note that,we will not be able work the image layer until we create a new layer and merge our image layer into the new layer.

We balance our image on the varanda we then create another new layer above the image layer, pick a white color and paint ontop of the girl flowers as snow drops while also painting the sky light blue with a touch of yellow above the mountains top.

Note: we are to make sure that our background color for a winter weather conditions is for we make sure that both our environment and character are to look pale white but we can add a little warm red on the cheeks of the character, for it to show that the character is alive.

So we click on THREE BAR on top and some selection will display, click on EDIT,

Another selection will display, click on TONAL CORRECTION,

Another different selection will display,we will then select HUE/SATURATION/LUMINOSITY,

We now adjust the hue/saturation/luminosity by moving the hue point to the left because the hue is like our color rainbow(on a straight line,

Next,we move the Point of our saturation to the right and lastly,we move the luminosity point to the right.

Following that, we paint some snow effect above all the layers,

Here we can now use another principle which blur Scaling to center the viewer attention to what we would like them to see which is the change in skin appearance of the character

We then move on by creating a new layer above all,set it to glow dogde and add some light ray from the sky onto the character face.

lastly, we check for our last principle [direction] that tells us that the should always be a path leading from the foreground down to the background.

Now we can just click on the THREE BARS>EDIT>TONAL CORRECTION and select COLOR BALANCE.

Then we can adjust the color balance of our weather conditions by moving the point of cyan & red closer to cyan and also the point for yellow & blue close to blue to make it look like the winter season,

Finish work.
