Here is part two of the second installment of the "In Action" series. I will combine my actual work case to share how an animation screen with magic elements is made from scratch.

 

In the previous issue, we explained in detail the process from "Script" to "Layout" starting from the creation of folders. And put forward a lot of points that need to be paid attention to in the production of individuals & small teams. For details, please move to "Part 1"

If you haven't tried to write a short story of about 1-5 minutes and make it into the layout section, please try it.

If you are like me before, you feel that you can only draw, and you are not suitable for other processes. I hope you can change this perception. Today, AI is developing rapidly in this field. Many top-notch technologies, like Internet technologies in the 1980s, will better help us improve production efficiency in the foreseeable future.

 

In fact, there are already many very convenient tools to improve our efficiency. The clipstudiopaint2.0 version we are using now has the "auto shadow" technology, which can "simplely" assist us in the drawing of color lines in the original painting stage. In this issue, I will briefly explain how I use it "Auto Shadow" to assist the production of the original painting.

 

We need to learn how to use these technologies to deepen our creation, no matter what tools, from the paper and pen in hand, ipad, or software such as clipstudiopaint, to 3D, or even use the very hot AI now— —I have always believed that these should serve to express our ideas. Shouldn't be limited to tools.

 

All progress needs an opportunity. You might as well take this opportunity to try to challenge different fields. At the stage of script and setting, you will stand in the perspective of expression, constantly looking for and optimizing various ways of communicating and communicating with the audience, to learn and gain more things .

1. Draw

Before the picture of each cut starts to draw, we need to complete the first two parts:

We will make animation layer by layer according to the design drawing of the animation we have made.

After the production is completed, we need to export the materials in layers to the "Export" folder, so that we can combine them together later.

After the background is completed, because some shots need to be combined with many books, the playback of the clip will be very stuck, and it is not convenient to draw animation.

How about it, do you feel moving? The scene is suddenly full of vitality. But this is just a sketch of the key motion nodes. That is what we have to do well in this step.

✨ Points to note here:

·Colored lines are used to describe the changes of light and shadow. More commonly used are "blue line-orange fill" for shadows, and "red line-yellow fill" for highlight areas. The fill color can be filled in the shadow layer.

• Lines of different colors can also represent areas of different background colors. For example, if there is a color matching part on the clothes, it can be represented by color lines. You can change it flexibly according to your own settings.

In the sketch of the original painting, in order to facilitate the production of the original painting later, I will use the selection fill tool to simply fill in the color blocks of each part of the character.

When drawing light waves, we hope to show the flow of light, although light will not actually "flow", we can imagine the feeling of sunlight shining on turbulent water. Or the effect of some fast moving air.

 

In the drawing, in order to maintain the unity of the overall picture movement, I will fix the film at every three frames.

The beam of light in the picture is a circular beam of light, so this part is far away from us and behind the picture. So we put it at the bottom.

Let's start with the bottom layer, which is the "protagonist-little girl".

We can draw according to the settings. If you are not good at drawing characters, please don't be ashamed to use models or references, please directly use the character models that come with clip to make adjustments.

 

In the actual production, we will also use the model that comes with clipstudiopaint to adjust the three views of the corresponding characters in the setting stage. In order to make it easier for us to quickly grasp the proportions of the characters in situations where the perspective & mirror movement is very extreme and the movements are very complicated, so as not to make the most basic proportion errors.
