How to design characters from objects and animals

Hi, I'm Mortdecai and today I'll give you my tips to anthropomorphize any object or animal :)
Define the characteristics of the character
First define the personality traits, followed by that, for the physical traits you can base yourself on the object you are using or on items related to them.
I see that the glass is very cylindrical, there are not very sharp elements, so I will use that for the facial features. Since it is a cold drink, I will relate my character to the cold or give it that context by representing it in the clothes and in his facial expression or "behavior/pose".
Extract the essence of the element
When you are going to represent the element on your character it is important to take into account the color palettes, for that you can use the option to create a custom palette in Clip Studio Paint.
Press there after selecting a color in the color picker, you will be able to add a color to your palette!
Since I have my palette, I can use variations of these colors for the whole drawing!
Find important and striking features
Next to that you must choose the most relevant features of your element, in this case they are the cherry, the ice cream, the ice, the mint color and the glass.
When drawing the elements of the object on your character, be guided by the shapes to decide which elements of the object are going to be transformed into which things.
In my case I find that the mint color of the drink would be good for the hair, the red color of the cherry for the eyes and it can also serve as inspiration for some other accessories.
For skin tone
When I choose the skin tone I choose to use the color that is closest to any skin color, in this case I prefer to use the almost white color that is seen in ice cream. It is important to use a color that is within the color range of the object that we are going to transform.
Important
It is important that in order to preserve the essence of the original image, the materials and textures of the elements that we are going to take from the initial object are taken into account, as well as enlarging or making the main elements of the object more attractive.
Final part
When you already have the rough idea of what you are going to draw, you give the best finish you can to your drawing, you can include the original element in the drawing as a curious form of cameo, it is your decision!
With animals
For the animals, since they usually have recognizable expressions or features, I use them as a guide for my character's facial expression ^^
Remember to have your color palette ready!
character creation
The hair in case the animal has, I will use it to shape the hair of my character, taking into account the color of the animal's hair, the shape and texture, in this case I will use the color white.
For the skin tone, I usually use the color that is seen in the animal in a more marked way or the color that I feel prevails and is more noticeable to the naked eye, in this case I plan to use a tone darker than white, a Tone similar to beige, as she has some darkening under her eyes, I will transform them into dark circles for my character. For the eyes, I use the eyes of the animal as a reference, this includes color, shape and any particularity it possesses.
If you find it difficult to have the reference in another place you can use the option to create a new window, hold the window and move it, and put it on top of the window in which you are drawing.
You can move the window from here:
For the clothes and shape of my character, I also use the fur as a reference or some accessory that the animal has, I transform it into clothing as well. If you want to create more accessories, you can use an element related to an accessory that the animal already has, this will give you more variety and you will be able to handle it with the same concept and context.
Hope it has fit! :)
