Even if you use the same pen pressure settings as the brush published by a god-like illustrator, it will not be the same.

 

Not only are the quantity and quality of illustrations they have done different, but their muscle strength and body structure are also not the same. It is very difficult to reproduce the same behavior even given the same device and settings.

 

However, by using the functions of CLIP STUDIO PAINT, I can now have a little more control over the line drawings.

What are the characteristics of lines that humans find beautiful?

Humans may be wired to perceive beauty when there is an amount of information greater than 2.

Several ways to draw the lines you want

You may be able to express beauty by adding 2 or more information to the line.

That means there is a contrast.

 

Make the line thinner → Light is hitting

Make the line thinner → the object is far away (perspective)

 

Thicken lines → Shadows and shadows (occlusion)

Thicker lines → object is closer (perspective)

 

How can we put these things into practice?

I recommend using vector layers.

 

I feel that vector layers are easy to backtrack. It can also be said that it is easy to correct.

After drawing a circle using [shape], it's time to practice.

If you hold down Shift and move the mouse, you can draw a perfect circle.

→[Line width correction]

When you select , you will see several things in the tool properties.

 

[Thicken by specified width]

[Thin to specified width]

There are several options such as:

You might want to practice by selecting your favorite option and entering your favorite numbers.

 

When I feel like something isn't going well,

[Modified by adding control points]

Try enabling or disabling it.

We also recommend using vector layer materials from CLIP STUDIO ASSETS.

Of course you can use it as is, but you can change the line width or strength to your preference later.

 

It is also possible to standardize vector layer materials.

→[Ruler/Frame frame]

→→[Vector to ruler]

 

After making it a ruler, you can draw it with the strength you like.

Apply what you've learned so far to your characters.

The central character is

It has such characteristics.

 

“Color tracing” on the far right is a technique that blends the line drawing with the coloring.
