How to draw a room in perspective with help from the sims
In this tutorial I’ll show you how to draw a room with the help of the sims.
If you’re like me and have a hard time figuring out what the room is actually supposed to look like let alone draw the room out of your head this tutorial is for you. The easiest way to figure out a room is a refference. If you have a room you’ll be drawing frequently because the location reapears a few times in a comic or manga it’s easier to have a 3D model somewhere.
The sims 4 basegame is free on pc so even though I own an unhealthy amount of expension packs I’ll limit myself to basegame for this example. I’m not gonna explain all the little tips and tricks on using the sims cause there are plenty resources on the internet to figure that out. What I will say though is to use the free cam to make your screenshots within the space. If needed you can knock down a wall to get the perfect view.
Now here we have a nice renovated studio space in an old industrial building where we can figure out what kind of perspective picture we want. In this case we’ll add some friends who are hanging out in later.
If you are on the more lazy side or in a bit of a time crunch (no judgement here, we’ve all been there) you can just trace the image to get your background fast but for the purpose of this tutorial we’ll use the perspective ruler and draw the room more naturally.
In this case the placement of the room asks for a 3 point perspective. I use the already existing lines to figure out how my perspective is playing out.
This perspective grid can look a bit ridiculous because you choose the perspective without knowing exactly where the vanishing points were gonna end up being.
Now that we have our perspective figured out we can lower the opacity of our refference picture and start drawing the room.
Now we have a rough layout. You can also ignore the room you originally made in the sims and draw in details on the rough sketch that you are left with. If needed you can also change up the furniture to whatever you desire.
Now that we finished the room we can add in our characters. Sometimes it can help to draw a box where you want the character with the perspective rulers you already placed.
And there you have it! A space drawn with the help from the Sims.
