Introduction

Today we'll be learning how to use the colorize tool in your artwork, and how it can improve the final piece.

Rough drafts

First start off by making rough sketches of your idea, that we'll be using for the colorizing process.

For me, I've started off with a sketch that I had already planned out but it's best to sketch out multiple sketches of the same idea from different angles.

Lineart

Once your sketch is complete, it's on to the next step: Lineart.

The lineart doesn't have to be perfect, unless you want it to be perfect. Just make sure that the lineart is closed so that the color doesn't get out.

Colorize Tool

Now here comes the fun part, after you've finished your lineart make a new layer below it. This will be the coloring layer.

Instead of just coloring in the whole character, scribble in the colors, and then make the lineart layer the reference layer.

After that, go up to EDIT and click on it. Now go down EDIT until you see the

COLORIZE TECHNOLOGY PREVIEW, place the cursor on it and move to the side bar and go to

USE HINT IMAGE AND COLORIZE.

The colorize will take a bit, depending on the internet connection.

*You can use the selection tool on the characters and then invert it so that the colors in the character don't go beyond the lineart.

Fixing up the colorized artwork

For fixing up your artwork, I would suggest using the watercolor brushes.

They give the final piece a nicer look.

*You can paint above the lineart or paint below the lineart and above the colorized layer.

Background

Paint the background however you wish, though I used the same watercolor brushes for the background.

Final Touches

For this, I used the airbrush for the shading and lighting. I suggest using the background colors for that, it will bring in the final piece better.

shading: I used the purple from the background and set it to multiply.

lighting: used the orange and yellow from background and set it to glow-dodge.

For the final piece, I used an orange color and changed it to softlight to give it that sunset look.

*You can use the overlay to get the same effect as softlight for the final piece of your artwork.
