Using 3D Object Materials
From Version 1.8.0, 3D background materials have changed to 3D object materials.
You can easily edit the position and angle of 3D object materials and their parts. This tutorial explains the features related to new 3D object materials.
New 3D object materials can be found in the [Material] palette > [Background]. Items with "Ver.2" at the end of the material name are 3D object materials.
Note: You cannot use the new 3D object materials in Clip Studio Paint Ver 1.7.9 and earlier. Please update Clip Studio Paint to Ver 1.8.0 or later to use these materials.
[1] Select a part
Click a part on the canvas to select it.
If you can’t select a part, go to the display the [Object List] on the [Tool Property] palette and check that selection is enabled for the 3D object material.
If you see an icon in the toggle selection box, this means that you cannot select parts on the canvas. Click the icon to clear it and enable selection.
Note: Default settings of cloud materials
The 3D object materials added to Clip Studio Paint Ver. 1.8.0 have selection disabled by default. If you want to move the parts, first enable selection.
It is helpful to disable selection when you want to move the entire 3D object material as a whole.
[2] Change the position, angle, and size of individual parts
When you click a part, a manipulator will appear for the selected part.
By dragging the axes and arrows of the manipulator, you can move the position of the arrow and change the angle of the circle. Drag the square to scale the part.
Hint: In version 2.3.0 or later, the scale changes color from blue to pink as you tilt it.
Hint: If you accidentally move or rotate the entire material
When you first click a part, the root manipulator for the entire 3D object material will appear.
Click the part again to switch to the manipulator for the selected part.
[3] Changing the view of the 3D object material
You can change settings such as light source, outline, and projection method (Ver. 2.3 or later) in the Tool Property palette.
< Light source on/off >
< Outline on/off >
< Perspective Projection/Parallel Projection > (Ver.2.3.0 or later)
[4] Useful features of the object launcher
The object launcher is very helpful when using 3D object materials.
■ Open the object launcher (PRO/EX)
Click the [Object List] to open the [Object List] section of the [Sub tool detail] palette.
This view is larger than the version in the [Tool property] palette, so it can be more useful.
■ Reset to default
You can use the object launcher to reset 3D object materials to default after editing them.
① Reset the position of a part
You can use this to reset only the positioning of the parts.
In the object launcher, click the “Reset pose” icon to reset the parts to their default positions.
② Reset the scale
You can reset the scale of 3D object materials to their original size.
In the object launcher, click the “Reset scale” icon to reset the object to its default size.
③ Reset rotation
You can reset the angle of 3D object materials to their original state.
In the object launcher, click the “Reset rotation” icon to reset the object to its default angle.
