3 elements + 1 composition technique, allowing you to easily draw various forest scenes!
Hello! Little cute
I am Comic black rainbow
Is painting scenes one of your passions?
Most people who draw pictures
What I like to draw most are subjects such as people or animals.
If you just draw some simple works, of course there is no problem
but we all know
Only limited to painting people and animals
It will definitely not satisfy our desire to create
At this time we will want to draw some complete works
For example, works with background
But for people who usually draw people and animals
The difficulty of drawing the background is:
1. Background often requires perspective basis
2. The background is full of complex objects
3. Because I rarely draw backgrounds, I am not used to drawing backgrounds.
In fact, painting backgrounds is also a professional field of painting
For different stories, situations and creative needs
The required backgrounds are also different
This is why there are scene painters in the game industry
Hayao Miyazaki's animations will also have animators who specialize in drawing scenes.
Because the details of drawing the background are actually very complicated and require homework and research beforehand.
But even so, there are still traces to be followed in the presentation of various scenes
And today I want just one scene
Share with you simple techniques for drawing
That is the scene that many people often draw during the creative process - the forest!
And today I will also use Clip studio paint to demonstrate
Because there are many painting aids when using Clip studio paint
It can help us when drawing forest scenes
It can be simple, convenient, easy and fast to draw various forest scenes we want to present!
3 basic elements for drawing forest scenes
First of all, when we first draw a forest, if we don’t consider too many details, such as differences in geography, seasons, countries, climates, etc., just to understand the forest, we must first understand the forest. The three most basic elements in the scene: trees, grass, and grass.
In fact, most forest scenes can be drawn using only these three elements! But at this time you may ask, how to draw trees, bushes, and grass? If you were to draw one blade of grass, of course it would be impossible, so let’s take a look at how to easily draw these three elements! And at the end, they are combined into various forest scenes!
But before we look at how to draw these three elements, because there are really rich materials about forests, trees, leaves, etc. in Clip studio assets, you may not know where to start, but don’t worry. ! Among these many and scattered materials, I found a painter who shared a set of brush materials that can draw trunks, branches, leaves, and grass at the same time. This is the most complete set of tree and grass brush materials I have seen so far. Got it! So I highly recommend that you use this set of materials to start your forest scene painting journey!
How to draw trees?
First of all, let’s start with the largest trees. In fact, trees are mainly a combination of trunks, branches and leaves. Trunks and branches are easy to draw, but the complexity of the leaves certainly makes it impossible for us to draw them one by one. At this time we You will definitely use the leaf brush part, so you can use the set of brushes I recommended you to use above to play around!
Generally speaking, our eyes see the leaves of trees in front and back positions, so usually when we draw trees, we will lay down a darker background color, sometimes dark green, sometimes we can also add A little blue is used to show the leaves covered by shadows at the back, while the leaves closer to us slowly take on a clearer green, or a warmer green, so usually leaves or grass are painted layer by layer. Going up
After drawing the overall appearance, I will use some leaf brushes to draw some leaves with a clearer appearance. At this time, I usually absorb the color of my paving color as the color of the leaves, and then appropriately paint it in the dark. Make some embellishments with the bright parts so that the tree we draw will look more layered.
Finally, after we add a simple tree trunk, basically, our easily drawn tree is completed
If you want to make the leaves look more colorful, you can also use brighter yellow leaves as the final embellishment!
How to draw grass?
The painting method of grass is the same as that of trees, except that the trunk is missing, and the leaves will be more detailed.
At the beginning, we also laid a large area of background color on the canvas. Here I used darker blue, green, and slightly brighter green, and used a rubbing method to roughly capture the shape of the grass.
Then, just like how I painted trees, I used the color I laid as the color of the leaves, and embellished them around appropriately. Generally speaking, I would not paint all the leaves on the entire background, as this would look too messy. , so I add leaves to some parts and leave no leaves to other parts, so that the grass looks more comfortable. The leaves painted at the end are usually the brightest color, here I used a brighter turquoise.
Finally, because there are two kinds of leaf brushes in this brush, I used another larger and divergent leaf as an embellishment. After I painted a lot of leaves here, I felt that the whole picture was too cluttered, so I added After painting, I also erased a lot of leaves to make the whole grass look more comfortable and not too cluttered.
How to draw grass?
Finally, for the grassland part, it’s the same. I use dark blue and green as the background color, and draw the land area where I want to draw the grassland.
Then add a brighter green on top of the background color. The painting method here is the same as the leaves, which are painted layer by layer. The difference is that the brush used is the brush used to draw grass.
After the overall background color of the grass was almost painted, I used a relatively clear grass brush and began to paint small and small patches of grass on the local area. The color of the grass was also based on the color I laid down, and it was appropriate. As an embellishment on the grass, just here, in order to increase the richness of the color of the grass, I added a bit of brighter yellow as an embellishment
Of course, when I start painting, I will draw a lot. When it looks particularly messy, I will start to adjust the position of the clearer grass, or erase some grass that feels too much, so that the overall grass does not look so messy. . Just organize it to a state that makes you feel comfortable and that’s it!
Forest Scene Composition Tips
After understanding how to draw the basic elements of a forest scene - trees, bushes, and grass, we now have to start imagining the forest scene! Generally experienced painters may quickly conceive the composition of their works in their minds, but for beginners and intermediate painters who want to paint forest scenes, composition may have its own difficult steps, so here I will I want to share a secret about the composition of a forest scene, which is to distinguish between the front, middle and back scenes!
First, let’s take a look at these three pictures
Just looking at these three pictures may seem like nothing, but if we simply arrange these three pictures in the front, middle and back, you will find that the pictures have changed a lot!
Do you feel that the picture has become rich, interesting and orderly? This is why we need to distinguish between front, middle and back scenes! Because this will make the picture rich without being too monotonous, and using various picture elements to distinguish the front, middle and back scenes will also make the picture look orderly without being too cluttered! So if you want to draw a forest scene but don’t know how to compose it, you can start with this simple concept of front, middle and back scenes to arrange the composition to make your picture rich and beautiful!
Use techniques for drawing trees, bushes, and grass to draw forest scenes
I believe that after you have personally drawn trees, bushes, and grass, and after understanding the composition techniques, you will definitely have a basic impression and concept of drawing these elements. At this time, it will become much easier for us to draw the forest! First we can draw a simple sketch using the composition techniques of front, middle and back scenes.
Then, based on our sketch, we can start to draw the trees in the background, the grass and characters in the middle ground, and the grass in the foreground, and make a color plan at this time. Because we need to distinguish the front, middle and back scenes, in this picture, the easiest way is to use color to distinguish the front, middle and back scenes.
After a simple color plan, we can start painting the details! I first painted the grass in the foreground, and then the trees in the background, because the grass in the foreground and the trees in the background do not need to be drawn in detail, they only need to be painted simply, so that the characters and birds in the middle ground can stand out. Come out, so finish the simple painting first, and then slowly adjust the details of the mid-ground!
Next, I focused on painting the grass in the middle ground. Here, I first used green grass with a relatively low saturation, close to gray, and then painted warmer grass on top of these less saturated grass to make the overall grass look better. It looks more layered
Then, I made some simple modifications to the overall mid-ground grass, and also adjusted the foreground grass according to the tonality of the mid-ground grass, so that the foreground grass can look thinner and not too different from the mid-ground grass. big
After the entire scene was basically drawn, I started to draw the characters and birds. In order to make the characters more vivid, I later made an overall selection of the characters and birds. all. First, I added some shadows of leaves on the grass, and then drew the character's body movements with simple line drawings.
Then we will refine the line drawings of the characters and birds, because this way it will be easier when we want to color them.
Then lay down the basic natural color. Here I want to draw a little prince like a fairy tale, so you will find that the character's clothes look a little like the prince in Snow White.
After laying out the natural colors, I have to start laying out large shadows, so here I use an airbrush brush, which is better for painting large areas of fog texture.
After the natural colors and shadows are painted, the next step is the highlight of the painting - the detailing part! At this time, it usually takes more time to process the more detailed light and shadow parts.
After the prince's entire body was roughly drawn, I began to add some light and shadow changes to the grass around where the prince sat and on the prince's body, and also painted the parts of the bird.
After the overall shadows are almost drawn, we can draw some strong light parts, so that it will appear that the entire picture has sufficient sunlight. After all, the stronger the shadow, usually means the stronger the light, so in Here, I use the "additive (glow) layer mode" to draw the layer where the light hits the prince and the bird.
Basically, the main part of the painting is almost done here, but I still want to make the picture richer, so I added shining light spots around the grass, background forest, and a little yellow light fog feeling, and the foreground Change to feathers and elegant
Originally, I should have stopped painting at this point, but I still wanted to enrich the picture, so I added some flowers on the grass, and from above on the painting, the sun shone directly on the prince, making the whole picture more beautiful. There is a hint that guides everyone to watch the prince. This overall picture makes me feel like I can stop XDDDDD
