1. Finding a material to publish

In the last tutorial, we showed how to publish materials such as brushes, backgrounds, tones, and sound effects.

How about publishing other materials on Clip Studio Assets?

It might sound like a lot of work, but there’s no need to think too hard. For example, do you have materials like this?

  • Auto actions that makes work more efficient
  • Auto actions that easily add effects to your work
  • Original color sets that gathers colors often used for skin coloring
  • Layered templates which made it easy to understand the printing range of comics, etc.

Auto actions and color sets that you made for yourself may be practical and useful materials for others as well.

Let's publish these materials created for yourself using Clip Studio Assets!

Q. Can I publish any kind of material on Clip Studio Assets?

A. You can only publish original materials that you have made on Clip Studio Assets.

This means that you cannot publish compilations of materials made by other people or customized materials made by others.

You should also make sure that any images or textures are your own. You cannot publish materials made with stock images or images created by someone else.

This includes images that are copyright-free or free for commercial use. Of course, these rules only apply when publishing to Assets! You are free to use such brushes and materials for personal use.

For details, refer to the following terms of use and guidelines.

2. Uploading materials - preparation -

Once you have decided what you want to publish, let's prepare the material.

2.1 Material settings

First, make sure the downloader can use the material, and that you set the tool properties to usable values.

The points to check will change depending on the material.

<For auto actions>

  • Does the auto action work correctly?

Does it behave as intended? Check if the auto action works correctly on files other than the one it was made on.

If the auto action uses a specific layer name, it may not work correctly on other files.

  • Are there any unnecessary actions included in the auto action?

Check if there is no extra steps in the auto action that you do not need. If extra actions are included, delete them.

  • Is the name of the auto action easy to understand?

Name it so that you immediately understand what it does.

Auto actions are registered as a material in sets. After checking the actions of the auto action, let's make a set of auto actions for publication. The method will be described later.

  • For details on how to make auto actions, please refer to the following tutorial.

<For Color Sets>

  • Is the name of the color set easy to understand?

Let's put a descriptive name such as “skin tone set,” or “hair color set,” etc. To change the name of the color set, display the menu from the upper left of the palette and select [Edit color set].

  • For details on how to make color sets, please refer to the following tutorial.

<For Layer Templates>

Layer templates can register all layers on a canvas to the [Material] palette. The registered material can then be imported from the [New] dialog box’s [Template]. This is useful when you want to draw multiple pages in the same format.

  • Are there any extra layers?

For canvas contents, check to make sure that only the layers you want to register in the template are included.

  • Are the layer settings correct?

Are the layer settings included in the template correct? Check if the expression color of the layer is as intended and not set incorrectly to a rough draft layer, etc.

After confirming, register the material to the [Material] palette.

2.2 Registering your material to the [Material] palette

<How to register auto actions>

Auto actions are registered as a material in sets. If there are unnecessary auto actions in the set, create an auto action set for publication and move the auto action, or duplicate the set and delete the extra auto action.

Click on the upper left corner of the [Auto Action] palette and select [Create new set] or [Duplicate set] from the menu. Make sure to choose a simple and clear name.

To create a new set and move the auto action, select the auto action you want to move, and the select the set you want to move from the upper left menu > [Move the auto action to another set].

To delete an auto action from the duplicated set, select the auto action you want to delete, and click the trash can icon on the bottom right of the palette to delete it.

When you only want to release an auto action as a set, select [Register set as material] from the upper left menu. Set the save destination and click [OK] to register the material in the [Material] palette.

<How to register color sets>

To register a color set as a material, select [Register color set as material] in the menu. Set the save destination and click [OK] to register the material in the [Material] palette.

<How to register layer templates>

Open the file you want to register in the layer template and select [Edit] menu > [Register Material] > [Template].

When you set the save destination in the [Material property] dialog box and click [OK], it is then registered in the [Material] palette.

Next, let's prepare examples and introductions for the material.

2.3 Preparing examples and introductions

Once you register your material to the [Material] palette, prepare examples and introductions for it.

The example and introduction are necessary to show what the material is, and how to use it. Even a simple introduction will do the job.

Prepare the following: a thumbnail, an introduction, and an example.

(1) Thumbnail

It is registered automatically, but you can also make it yourself.

A: Auto actions are easy to understand when comparing the before and after images.

B: For color sets, palettes are automatically registered as thumbnails. If you create thumbnails yourself, you should make it easy to understand what kind of colors are registered.

C: It is a good idea to make it easy to understand what kind of template the layer template is.

(2) Introduction

The introduction is displayed above the instructions and examples. You can show the material’s purpose (for comics, for illustration, etc.), how you use it, etc. in 500 words or less.

[Introduction example]

  • This action separates a scanned image into lines and a background. Use it when you want to extract lines.
  • This is a color set that collects various skin tones. There are 15 kinds of flesh tones, each with 9 steps, a total of 135 colors.

(3) Examples

An example can be put in the instructions and example section. For example, Celsys official materials are jpeg files about 400 pixels in size. There is no specific rule on the size, but when you create it with a width under 550 pixels, the image fills the space nicely.

[Example]

  • In case of an auto action

A good example explains “How does it behave?” and “What kind of auto actions are in the set?”

  • Color set

It is a good idea to display the a large example of a color set to show what colors it has.

  • Layer template

Introduce the template and how to use it as the example.

After you have prepared the material, its description, and examples, let's publish the material on Clip Studio Assets using the method in the below article.
