How to apply hair using the layer effect
I will explain how to apply hair using layer composition modes such as “Multiply” and “Screen”.
1. Paint a shadow
Let's set the shadow layer composition mode to [Multiply].
(Click here for explanation of undercoat.
I think that the colors used for multiplication are light colors with low saturation.
(Used in the upper left red circle)
Use a “pen that gets thinner” or the default pen.
This time, I will use a simple paint with only a thin shadow.
Setting of “pen that gets thinner” ↓
(For details on how to make, see this tip → https://tips.clip-studio.com/en-us/articles/2214#2f16313f
If you use the fill tool with the transparent color selected, you can easily erase the protruding area.
The shadow was painted.
2. Paint highlights
Create a new layer on top of the shadow layer and use a pen to highlight it.
The color used is the same as the shadow color.
Change the layer composition mode to [Screen].
The highlight will be transparent. If you lower the opacity a little, it will be easier to get used to.
(Left opacity 100% Right opacity 60%)
3. Make your hair transparent
Create a new layer on top of the undercoat layer. You can keep the normal layer.
Remove the skin color with a dropper and apply air to the middle bangs and back hairs with an airbrush.
(Use a layer mask to erase the part that protrudes from the back hair when the bangs are applied.
For details, see tips3 → https://tips.clip-studio.com/en-us/articles/2231#b8b05ce4If you multiply the layer, it will be affected by the color of the lower layer, so it will be easier to become familiar with.
4. Add color by overlay
It may be completed in the state of 3, but I will add a little more.
Create two new layers and set the layer mode to "Overlay".
Apply dull yellow-green on the upper left of the head with a strong airbrush, and a calm blue-purple on the hair from the back hair to the middle hair.
I think that the color has been added and deepened.
There is also an idea to change the overlay layer to [addition (light emission)] and [multiplication].
I tried changing the yellowish green layer to [addition (emission)] opacity 30% and the purple layer to [multiplication] opacity 75%. I think that the light and dark was emphasized and it became dramatic.
It is a good idea to use them according to the taste of the illustration you want to draw.
(For left overlay layer, right addition multiplication layer)
5. Complete
This is the end of this course.
