How to Level- up the Line art of your art work using CSP [2]
Article Title: How to Level- up the Line art of your art work using
Part [2]
6. Clip studio paint useful correct sub tools
Over the years of using clip studio paint app, I have come across so many useful features and the [ correct sub tools ] is one of them. The [ correct sub tools ] are sets of tools which gives the users the easy ways to approach the various line strokes to either connect or adjust its position, also all the [ correct sub tools ] work more effectively on [ vector layer ] than that of [ raster layer ] which only allow as shown below.
---------------------------------**
Next, let's get to know how each of the [ correct sub tools ] functions
• Functionality of the various [ correct sub tools ]
First thing we need know as a beginner before we can be able to use them is knowing how to locate them and to do so, we need click on a any sub on the [ edit bar ], which are page with different sets of [ select sub tools ] at the bottom, we will see the [ correct sub tools ] icon click on it, then a page with all the need [ correct sub tools ] will need now display which we can then select the one we want to use. Starting from the top options;
A. Control point:
Using control point gives the user the ability to switch to different types of corner at the clicked point as shown below.
---------------------------------**
Character Image ( drawn in a vector layer )
Say we have an image already drawn, using the control point tools we can adjust the image without erasing the image.
---------------------------------**
The results of the adjustment.
B. Pinch vector line:
Using Pinch vector line sub tool gives the user the ability to grab and drag parts of the line which was selected to reshape it.
---------------------------------**
Take for an instant, there is a already drawing image, using the [ Pinch vector line ] we can pinch any part or portion of the lines and adjust it.
C. Simplify vector line
The Simplify vector line are useful for cleaning up hand-drawn vector lines which can have unneeded control points which we can use to adjust the amount of simplification.
---------------------------------**
This tool just smooth the strokes so I didn't use it much.
D. Connect vector line
The Connect vector line is a process through which lines are drag and overlap at the ends of the two lines with the purpose of connecting the lines.
---------------------------------**
Using this tool we can connect part of the character line strokes which are not join together.
---------------------------------**
E. Adjust line width
The Adjust line width help gives the user the ability to adjust the weight (widths in short) either making the lines either thicker or thinner.
---------------------------------**
We can use this tool to add thickness to the outer line of the character which we can use to show viewers the area of the light reflection and shadow area as was explained in the previous article.
---------------------------------**
F. Redraw vector line
The Redraw vector line help give the user the ability to push or pull the vector line around at will with not a restriction.
---------------------------------**
Using this tool, we can readjust the lines art of the character, as we is done on the hairs of the character.
---------------------------------**
G. Redraw vector line with
The Redraw vector line helps the user by using the Brush Size setting to adjust the thickness of the line. The larger the brush size is set, the thicker the tool will make the parts of the line it is used on. When the brush is set to a size smaller than the current line, the tool will make the line thinner.
---------------------------------**
Using this tool, we can add dark black colours to the points where lines intersect or cross paths, as was explained in the previous article.
---------------------------------**
7. Suggesting of forms and shapes using lines
In our previous article, we talk about building up of lines either vertically, horizontally or diagonally which then lead us to learning that lines can be drawn using different pathway, whereas we went further finding out which path each of our strength and our wicknesses lays to better improve ourselves.
Now line suggestions is a way of which artist simple represent the shapes of a folded of pointy edge of a material, and also it's a easy way to represent cast shadows of an object.
Say we have a bread toaster which is some form of a box in nature with round round edges about each end, some may draw it using straight up vertical line for the entire edges but this is where line suggestions take effect and tells us instead of using only vertically for the edges while not use horizontal line to represent the edge which do help the artist also quantify the roundness of the round edges shape of the toaster with it's cast shadows.
---------------------------------**
Using this idea of line suggestions, we tend to be able to suggest the form of shadows on a paper and the round shape of an ( ice block ) and ( electrical pole ) using a small continuous line strokes, starting thick from where the shadows or shapes is highly refined or determined.
---------------------------------**
If you been seeing my work you will notice I often use this logic style of line suggestion like shown in the one below.
---------------------------------**
Now this aspect I tend to use mostly in my work it help in redefining the creativity in your work which I will be showing later on.
Applying the above mentioned process on to our character,
------------------------------—-**
After was make the layer we draw it on invisible so as to enable it later.
---------------------------------**
Adding a flat base colour and give it a name.
---------------------------------**
Note: that at this point, we have created a good character line art using vector layer. But if you want to pull even further then the following below are for you.
Use lines to add bruises effect onto the character.
---------------------------------**
Afterwards, we can now add our ( line suggestions ) by make the layer we draw it visible, so that it can reflect onto the character.
-----------—--------------------**
You can skip this as it is not relevant, but i saw it in some work, it involves just drawing round lines around all shadows area.
---------------------------------**
And that concludes this article.
Conclusion
