Hello and welcome to this extraordinary tutorial! Because most understand by "fighting characters" people who fight. But why does it have to be only humans? Why not animals? For example, for those who would like to learn how to draw animals ready for battle. Do not worry. Here you are right! Here you will learn which animals are the best fighting animals, what types of poses there are, what makes a fighting animal and what you should pay attention to in comics. So let's begin...

IMPORTANT: The drawings, characters and comics are all mine. The characters do not exist (are not movie characters, comic book characters or video game characters). I hope the signatures on the bottom right will suffice as proof.

choose animal

A battle-ready animal should have the following personalities:

-strong

-brave

-loyal to

-team spirit

-(terrifying)

-and ready to fight, of course!

These include, for example, the wolf and the eagle. But that's just a very small part of all the other possibilities. Choose one you want, here you have a completely free choice of your future character.

If you have no idea which one suits you best, here are six animals for you:

Eagle:

-Bravery & Courage

-Strength

-Eternal life

-Power

-King of the skies

Tiger:

-adventurous

  • combative

-Passion

-savagery

-Power

Bear:

  • scary

-Sympathy

-trust

-Respect

-Power

Crocodile:

  • scary

-dangerous

-Strength

Wolf:

-team spirit

-loyal to

-brave

-patient

-fast

shark:

-Respect

-Strength

-dangerous

-powerful

-strong life

There are of course many more of those, as I have already said. Don't be desperate. To make things a little easier you can choose your favorite animal or even your pet! Even if your animal does not have one of the characteristics at first glance, do not despair. Because this is fantasy and everything is possible there. For example, you can make a scared little rabbit that is so sweet and soft, but still strong and dangerous, that's no problem at all. (the drawing is mine)

Upgrade

Now we want to do a small "upgrade" for our animal. As I said in the previous chapter, it is possible to make a small fearful animal strong and dangerous. But how? There are a few options:

1st size

-The size of the animal makes a big difference. No matter how cute the animal looks, the smaller critters get scared of being crushed.

2. Details

-Horns, shells, wings or tusks. An animal with dangerous spikes that are poisonous or very painful can make the creature more dangerous. Large, powerful wings also take up space, which is also an indication of a powerful animal.

3. Elements

-An animal that knows magic makes things better, of course. Because an animal that controls fire can cause fires in its opponent.

Here is an example of the eagle. I intentionally left the normal form of the eagle to show you the difference between the normal and the upgraded one. Now you can do the same with your chosen animal. However, it does not have to be an element from the example, your imagination has no limits. (the drawing is mine)

Posen

Emotions and position are also important qualities in a combat-ready animal. Because if your animal stands around stiffly without emotion in the middle of a fight, it not only makes your picture illogical, but also boring. To prevent this from happening, I have a table below for you to give you an overview of how to create from the sketch to the detailing of each pose of each animal.

NOTE: This table represents not only the animals depicted, but also the animals of their kind, such as the wolf represents the mammals and quadrupeds. Eagles for birds and flying creatures. Crocodile for reptiles, amphibians and fish. (the drawing is mine)

Use this point because at first glance it seems like just a hint, but if you look closer you'll realize that if you don't use this trick, something is wrong with your character.

perspective

A good perspective from a certain direction of the image has a very good effect on the viewer and creates tension. You had probably already noticed this in films, comics or simple illustrations. Because if your picture just shows your fight scene from any side, then your picture won't work. Because that is a very big mistake that most beginners make. That's why the picture doesn't look right.

The red guides help you to clarify the perspective on your picture. It sounds difficult and complicated at first, but it really isn't. All you have to do is find a spot on your picture that you like and mark a point there where all the rays are coming out, like in the picture above.

This is what the finished image looks like. The sun's rays will make things easier for you, and perspective will become clearer.

Here it becomes even clearer. Do you see that the sun is in the picture of the light beams from all the guides? And that the rays of the sun and the auxiliary lines are exactly one below the other? So you can see that it is not that difficult to create and use these lines. (the drawing is mine)

Illustration

Now you know everything you need for the illustration. Put your knowledge and start drawing. It is best to start with the basis, then sketch and only then with detail. Also, as in the previous chapter, use the line of sight and perspective so that your picture doesn't get boring. Don't forget to use shadows, blur effects and magic effects.

This is the sketch from my picture.

Here my character is already done with details, color and shadows.

First I added the background (if you just want to draw the character, you don't need to do this step).

And finally some magic effects. Now my and hopefully your picture is finished. I hope you succeeded. It may not work the first time, but if you don't give up and keep doing more and more, you'll be able to do them in your sleep. The next chapter is about comics, so for those who don't make or don't want to make a comic, you can leave the tutorial now but have to. (the drawing is mine)

Comics

A single illustration of your fight scene isn't enough for you and you want to make a whole story out of it? No problem, because here you only need to know a few little things, otherwise the previous tips are just as important for an illustration as for a comic.

a. Diagram of your character

If you make a comic, then your animal will probably appear several times in the comic and therefore have to paint several times. Before you even do anything with the comic, you must first get to know your own character better. From all sides, angles of view, emotions and poses. There are two possibilities. The first is simply to draw the character iteratively several times to get the hang of it. The second is to make a chart.

Now you're probably thinking "huh, chart? What's that?". You can imagine it like this: In an encyclopedia of animals and plants, the creature is often shown from all sides and the details of the creature are individually enlarged and labeled.

That's about what it looks like. As you can see, the eagle is shown in its entire form in the middle and the body parts are all labeled and the individual body parts were each drawn once in large. (the drawing is mine)

Here's how to create a chart. The diagram gives you your animal from all sides, which makes it easier for you to create your comic. It takes a while, but it's worth it.

b. structure of the comic

A good comic also needs a good structure. By that I mean the distribution of the images and their perspectives. In any case, with the comic, make sure that there is a certain distance between the pictures and that there is as much space as possible (the pictures shouldn't be too small, however!). It's also not bad if a page consists of only three pictures, that's it completely normal. Because it is important that the image is recognizable and that the speech bubbles are legible.

Do you see? Only three pictures and still it's not bad. The writing is very legible and there is some spacing between the images. And you've probably noticed that mostly only the speaker is shown (or the shadow or the mirror image of the speaker as in picture 3). You can also use this for your future comic, because it also creates excitement. In this way you can show how the respective animal feels and how it expresses its speech, because the readers cannot hear the comic. (the drawing is mine)

Hopefully you have now learned a lot and hopefully understood. And I wish you a lot of fun creating and practicing and hope you can make a good comic or an awesome illustration of a fight scene. Until then, take care and bye!
