The layout of menu commands may vary in the smartphone version.

The Text tool cannot be used in Simple Mode. Please switch to Studio Mode to use it.

Entering text

When entering text such as dialogue in a manga, use the Text tool on the Tool palette. You can customize settings such as font and text size from the Tool Property palette of the Text tool.

There are two main ways to enter text: “Wrap text at line break” and “Wrap text at frame”.

Use each one according to its purpose.

The rectangular box that appears around the text you are entering is called a text frame.

Wrap text at line break

This is the standard input method for entering text into manga speech bubbles, etc.

Select the Text tool, tap on the canvas at the desired position, and start entering the text. The text will wrap wherever you enter a line break.

Wrap text at frame

This is a good method for inputting long texts, such as monologues in manga.

Select the Text tool and drag on the canvas to create a text box.

The text will automatically wrap to fit the frame.

Changing the size of the text frame alters the position of line break.

Note: The settings of the created text frame can be changed in the Tool Property palette of the Text tool. If Wrap text at frame is turned off, the text will wrap at the line breaks.

Using installed fonts

Once you have installed a font, you need to add it to the font list before using it.

*Please prepare the font files you want to add in advance.

From the Text tool's Tool Property, tap Add font from files... and select the font file you want to add.

Organizing a font list

If your font collection grows and it becomes difficult to find the font you want to use, create a font list of your frequently used fonts to organize them.

Select the Text tool and display the font list from Font on the Tool Property palette. Tap the gear icon to display the Font list settings dialog box.

Tap the button in the bottom left of the Font list settings dialog box, and create a new font list with a name of your choice. Check the text you want to display in the list, then tap OK.

Using Fonts for Manga and Comics

Starting with Clip Studio Paint Ver. 3.0, you can use "Clip Studio Comic," an alphabetical font exclusive to Clip Studio Paint with a hand-written feel, for free.

Here, we will introduce the features of "Clip Studio Comic" that you may want to use when creating manga or Webtoon.

Creating a hand-drawn feel

"Clip Studio Comic" is based on text drawn using Clip Studio Paint brushes. Each character contains four different glyphs, and different glyphs are randomly assigned to the same sentence to create a hand-written feel.

Ensuring readability

Personal pronouns are detected from the context and automatically converted to a capital "I" (Crossbar I).
