Dividing frames with a frame folder
Create a frame folder
Select the [Layer] menu → [New Layer] → [Frame Border Folder] to display the [New Frame Border Folder] dialog.
Check the layer palette and make sure that a [Frame Border Folder] has been created.
[Border division] sub tool
The frame division tool has two subtools by default
- [Frame folder division] subtool
→ Multiple frame border folders on one page
- [Frame division] subtool
→ One frame border folder on one page
Check the difference in function and select the subtool.
If you don't have any particular intention, it would be better to choose the [Border Divide] subtool to avoid complicating the layer structure.
The vertical and horizontal border spacing can be preset in [Preferences] → [Layer/Frame] → [Frame Border].
Dividing a frame (dividing a frame)
Drag from the larger frame to split it. Holding down the [Shift] key while dragging makes it easier to split the frame horizontally and vertically.
When splitting frames horizontally and vertically, if you are in an environment without a keyboard, you can split horizontally and vertically by displaying the [Sub Tool Detail] palette and turning on [Angle Increments]. While you're there, click the [Eyeball] icon to display it in the tool properties as well.
About the tool property [Divide frame border]
In the Split Frame Tool Properties[Split Method], you can choose whether to increase the number of folders by the number of frames, or to split the frame folder as it is. If you do not want to increase the number of frame folders when splitting frames, select [Split only frame borders without dividing folders].
When duplicating a frame border, be aware of the difference between [Duplicate Layer Inside] (duplicate a layer already in the layer folder) and [Create Empty Folder] (do not duplicate)
Editing frames
Create a cut-off frame
When you select the [Object] tool, handles will appear around the frame. Clicking the yellow △ icon will expand the frame in that direction (making it a cut frame).
Snap to another frame
You can move a frame by dragging the line of the frame border, or use the blue ● to transform it, and it will snap to the extension line of another frame border, making it easier to align the position.
Linking different frames
Select whether to maintain the spacing between frames when transforming a frame
The [Partial Link] option links the spacing between frames horizontally, but does not link frames that are lined up above and below.
Setting the frame border drawing state
Change the frame border drawing content with the object tool properties
- [Draw border]
- [Brush size]
- [Brush shape]
Drawing (display) of frame lines turned off
Changed the thickness of the border (brush size)
Change the brush shape of the border
Break through the frame with a character
About layer masks for frame border folders
How to hide part of a frame border. Please note that the layer folders created in the frame folders have different operations than other layers.
A mask will be created that is linked to the border created in the frame folder (the purple part in the image). This mask cannot be edited with the brush tool or eraser tool, so it is not possible to hide the "frame border" itself created in the frame folder with a mask
[1] Draw on a layer above the frame folder
Draw on a layer above the frame folder. A raster layer is created to mask the layers below so that they do not show through. The frame borders are hidden by using a [White Mask] layer (raster) that fills the green parts of the image with white.
Although it is necessary to create a selection area, this method is easy for beginners to understand as a layer structure.
[2] Mask the folder containing the frames
You cannot create an editable layer mask on a frame folder. Therefore, you need to put the frame folder in a layer folder and apply a layer mask to it.
[3] Use the frame border pen to erase the frame lines
In the tool properties for the Frame Border Pen, set
- Draw Border to OFF
- Add Method to **Add to Selected Folder
- Raster Layer to OFF
- Fill Inside Frame to OFF
Select the frame layer and draw around the part you want to erase.
This is the state where a "transparent frame" is drawn on top of an existing frame border. If you need to adjust the position later, you can do so with the object tool.
Frame ruler
There is a ruler hidden in the frame
The [ruler icon] in the frame border folder stores a ruler with the same shape as the frame line. For example, you can duplicate the ruler by dragging and dropping it onto another layer.
It would also be fun to use this ruler to draw your own frame borders with your favorite brush tool.
The [Ruler icon] is enabled only by clicking it the first time. After that, you can toggle it on/off by clicking it with [SHIFT].
